MRM Design Group, P.A. is eastern North Carolina’s foremost landscape architectural
firm. Affectionately known as “backyard architects,” MRM is actually a comprehensive,
full service company offering a wide range of typical commercial and residential design
services such as layouts for office complexes, banks, schools, apartment complexes,
shopping centers and more. In addition, we offer several specialities, such as the design
of subdivision entryways (both signage and landscaping) and the design of hardscapes–
amenities such as lighting, walkways, synthetic putting greens, driveways, parking lots,

One of only a handful of landscape architectural firms between Raleigh and the coast,
MRM was founded in 1987 and is registered with the state of North Carolina (#C-52).
Jonathan L. Melvin, RLA, ASLA, founder and president, has been specifically licensed
as a landscape architect since 1987, although he actually possesses over 35 years
experience in the overall landscape construction industry.
MRM has a reputation for developing prestigious commercial, institutional, industrial
and residential projects. Among these are East Carolina University, NC Wesleyan
College, Barton College, Beaufort County Community College, Northern Telecom,
the Harnett County Courthouse, the Rowe, the Hoyle and the Johnson residences in
Rocky Mount, the Cook and the Gaylord residences in Greenville and the Brady
residence in Bath.
